Late post: India Trip #Dec2015
Day 1 - 22th of December
Hello guysss! It's been
quite a holiday after spm and after Penang trip with my friends! Here goes a
long journey to Nepal to visit temples and see how their country looks
like.
Boarded the plane at
11:30 a.m. and they flight is at 11:50 a.m. We were lucky that
we can actually board the plane because what happened is that there's an error
with my grandma's name on her flight ticket. Then, an Air Asia staff told us
that my grandma isn't allow to board the plane?? Funny thing. You know how
you'd go through a lot of customs before you enter the departure gate right?
And after all the check ups in the customs before, not even one staff realise
the error on my grandma's ticket until the departure gate.
The staff gave us a plan
which is either we board the plane without my grandma and she'll take the next
flight or we all don't board the plane and take the
next flight. How ridiculous does that sound? And the next plane isn't even available
until morning of 24th of December.
Fortunately, another staff
was kind enough to call their manager and ask for approval for us to board the
plane. We had to admit the name error was somehow our fault too that we didn't
check the ticket before printing. The manager was kind enough to let us board
the plane.
On the plane, about 90% of
passengers are Bangladesh, only a few Chinese, other foreigners and Koreans.
And I mean 3 cute Koreans guys ((not kidding haha)). What do you expect if your
taking an Air Asia flight haha. No comfy seats of course, not much space, no
meals provided, no entertainment at all. After 4 hours of sleeping, some music,
sudoku and eating some sandwich I bought before boarding the plane, we've
arrived in Kathmandu, Nepal.
The view
before landing was amazing. There were high mountains and lots of fog below,
you can the shape of the river and all. Sadly, I missed the snow capped
mountain which was on the left side of the plane. I was sitting on the right
side. Ouch. I didn't get to capture that moment.
Upon
arrival, the temperature there is about 14 degree Celsius. When I got off the plane, it wasn't cold at first, there just a lot of
cool air blowing onto your face. We waited for our luggage to unload and the
airport was super crowded, not because there were a lot of people but because
the space is small for an airport. We waited about 2 hours to get our luggage,
bored much. Lots of Bangladesh bought large tv back to Nepal and I mean really
large, like 64 inch and all. I was so curios about why.
After that, we hopped onto
our vans that were gonna send us to our hotel. I asked the tour guide about it,
and she said its because the televisions sold in Malaysia are much more cheaper
than here. On the way to our hotel, I couldn't believe my eyes. The weather is
really cold and lots of people are still on the street, walking and selling
things. There weren't much vehicles on the road. All the vehicles are
jammed with people. Everyone just hopped on disregarding how full the vehicle
is, lots even sat on top of the vehicle in this cold weather. Vans and mini
buses are their transport I guess. Didn't exactly took a clear picture of how
it looks like but yea, it's creepy.
Due to the earthquake a
few years back, the victims still don't have their own home build yet. The
roads were destroyed by the earthquake, they've become rocky roads and uneven,
it's really hard for vehicles to pass by. Our hotel is located about 20 minutes
from the airport. We arrived and had our first meal in Nepal, which is dinner.
The sun sets on 5p.m. The sky gets really dark at about 6 p.m.
First meal isn't bad at
all. I'm guessing it's because I'm super hungry and the weather is super cold.
After the meal, we walked to a temple near us. Yes, it's feeding It's call
Boudhanath Stupa. It's a world heritage and unfortunately the the top of the
building has been destroyed by the earthquake. It's such a pity. It is a belief
that you make a wish and walk around the temple for 3 rounds clockwise, your
wish will come true. We made our wishes and walked around the temple as you
aren't allow to go in. You cannot stop during your 3 rounds around the temple,
if not your wish will not be granted.
It's about 8pm I
guess, we went for a small break at a nearby coffee shop where they serve milk
tea and butter tea. Don't get me wrong, their "coffee shop" isn't
what you think it is. It's just a small tent like store, a few tables and
seats. It's all they have, it keeps them warm from the cold and it's their
home. The milk tea was nice! But the butter tea tho, tastes salty haha I don't
know why too.
We went back to our hotel
at about 9pm. The electricity flow was back on and that they did not have
to use generator to provide electricity anymore. There's a schedule that shows
when the electric flow will be back on. They don't get enough electricity here,
therefore no heater for a hot shower or any warmer in this cold weather. Can
you imagine how the people there survive this cold weather? I was literally
freezing during the night and can't sleep because of the cold. The blanket
didn't even did its job and I was already wearing my coat and socks to
sleep.
Day 2 - 23th of December
I woke up super early.
Technically, I didn't sleep well. We had breakfast in our hotel and left to
visit 2 different temples. We hopped onto our van and went up a mountain to
visit a temple there. The temperature got lower as we are going up the
mountain. We saw lots of people stand on rooftops absorbing the warmth of the
sun.
When we arrived, we need
to climb up about 250 steps to the top of the
temple which looks like this
Did a small
ceremony and prayed for peace and happiness. After that, we walked down and
went to the temple next to it. Also, to pray for peace and happiness. We had
our lunch and left the mountain to another temple which was located 20 minutes
away.
"I
especially love this picture. I feel like I'm standing on the top of Kathmandu
and looking down to all the small houses they live in. There's no tall building
in Kathmandu."
We return to
our hotel after that to rest a while. Then we headed out to walk around the
street markets nearby. Their street markets were crazy and I mean literally
crazy, their motorbike everywhere and hey drive like it's their own road, noisy
beeps everywhere from the motorbikes and other vehicles as a warning that they
are going through. We bought some fruits, we were afraid that we might get
nausea or vomit due to the dirtiness of
the food sold on the streets. Therefore, we bought oranges and banana only,
because they were the only fruits that had skin that needs to be peeled. We
gathered at about 6pm where the sky was nearly dark and had our
dinner. It's a steamboat dinner which was such a good choice in such a cold
weather. It's about 8 degrees when the sun sets a and getting colder every
hour.
About 8pm again
I think, we went to walk 3 rounds around the temple nearby our hotel that we
walked around yesterday, made wishes and all. Then, we bought some gloves,
scarves, socks and beanie on some street store because the weather was freaking
cold and my fingers and toes are starting to feel numb. I nearly can't feel
them anymore. We went back to the hotel after that to pack and rest early
because we're leaving tomorrow!
Love,
Giselle
